Dr. Bettis has business oversight responsibility as Verus' chairman. As chief scientist, he oversees Verus' research on existing products and evolving areas of thought leadership. He is a former tenured professor and a serial and successful entrepreneur with significant management, business, and government experience. He is a well-recognized expert on corporate executive behavior, option valuation, and earnings management. Dr. Bettis holds a clinical position as associate research professor of finance at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. His pioneering work has been published in prestigious academic journals, such as the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, as well as other widely read journals, such as Abacus and the Financial Analyst Journal. He holds finance and accounting undergraduate degrees and earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1992.
Mr. Barrett manages partner relationships and day-to-day operations, and oversees the testing, development, and implementation of new products for our clients and partners. He has over 30 years of investment management and analytical research experience, having served as a portfolio manager at MFS Investment Management and at Sirios Capital Management, where he was a principal and sector head. Prior to his portfolio management experience, he was an equity research analyst at both The Boston Company and at MFS Investment Management. Earlier in his career, Tom served as Director of Finance for Arthur Andersen's Southern California Tax Practice. Tom is an avid investor, serves on several advisory boards, and is a guest lecturer at ASU's WP Carey School of Business. He received his CFA Charter in 1997, an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University in 1994, and a BA in Economics from UCLA in 1988.
Ms. Lemm and her highly credentialed team are responsible for software design and architecture, code development, database administration and QA and QC for all client-facing websites and backend processes that support all products of Verus and of numerous strategic partners. She brings with her over 25 years of experience as a technology manager, software engineer, and systems design architect. Ms. Lemm is a Sun Java Certified Professional who holds a Master's degree in Computer Science & Software Engineering (1995) from Colorado Technical University and an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from Wright State University (1985).
Mr. Gawne is responsible for technology operations and support overseeing our large virtual and redundant fiber channel network, computer technology and help desk. Mr. Gawne holds a SNIA certified Storage certificate as well as Comp TIA A+, Net+ and Security + certificates. Mr. Gawne also holds a volunteer leadership position for the local VMware User Group.
